Maxwell Lee Akers, 86 of Fayetteville passed away August 13, 2026, in Bentonville, Ark. He was born June 19, 1940, in Brooklyn Township, Ill., to Charles Floyd Akers and Elizabeth Bunn (Stambaugh) Akers.
He is a U.S. Navy veteran after serving 10 years.
He retired after 45 years as a boiler engineer for the Veteran’s Administration Hospital and was a member of American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and National Rifle Association.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sharon Akers, one daughter, Shawna Still (Lasaro Soto), one son, Thomas Akers (Shelly Rogers), four grandchildren, Cole, Micah, Esmerelda, and Kayla, and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, August 24, at Fayetteville National Cemetery with Pastor Clark Snow officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Circle of Life Hospice or Tunnels to Tower Foundation, T2T.org.
