Originally called Wedington Road, this route is a four- and five-lane primary artery that runs west from Garland Avenue to the city limits before becoming two lanes.

It is named for the Wedington community in western Washington County. The road continues west to Siloam Springs.

The name is also seen as “Weddington” in some sources because part of the family from which the toponym is derived spelled their surname with one “d” and part spelled it with two. Most geographic sources have spelled it with one “d,” and Fayetteville’s spelling for the street has followed that spelling.

From Garland Avenue west to Interstate 49, it is designated as Arkansas Highway 112. West of Interstate 49, Wedington Drive is also designated Arkansas Highway 16, which continues west to Siloam Springs, passing Lake Wedington Recreational Area and Wedington Gap.

Wedington Drive’s eastern terminus is at Garland Avenue, beyond which it becomes North Street.
