Safe Camp

During the covid-19 pandemic in the early 2020s, the 7Hills Homeless Center established a camp for members of the community living without shelter in an effort to provide them with more protection from the virulent infection.

Safe Camp was established on 13 acres of wooded, city-owned land west of Curtis Avenue and between Huntsville Road and 15th Street. It was started through $85,000 in funding from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act and administered by the city.

It opened in August 2020 and was dismantled by October 2021 after most of its residents had moved into some form of housing.
