This barn, which stood near the intersection of Stephen Carr Memorial Boulevard and Interstate 49, was painted by the owner with partial verses from the New Testament of the Bible and, today, represents a lost piece of Ozark folk art.
The upper eaves of the gambrel roof included “JESUS” on the left side of the hayloft door and “CHRIST” to the right.
The batten boards below the loft were painted with portions of several biblical verses on its west-facing wall, including:
- Revelations 1:5 — “Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood;”
- Colossians 1:20 — “Having made peace through the blood of his cross;”
- Mark 1:15 — “The kingdom of God is at hand; Repent ye and believe the Gospel;”
- Romans 6:23 — “The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord;” and
- John 3:16 in large letters.
The wall was most easily seen by drivers in the northbound lanes of the interstate and became a well-known landmark for exit 65 of the interstate.
