discos

During the latter 1970s, a music shift to “disco” spawned a wave of nightclubs referred to as “discos,” “discotheques” or “disco bars.”

The discotheques gained large followings after the movie “Saturday Night Fever, starring John Travolta and featured songs by the BeeGees, premiered in 1977.

They generally featured dance music played from records rather than live music, and some included light shows or lighted floors synced to the music. Discotheques in Fayetteville included:

  • 42nd Street
  • Billie Jean’s
  • The Gaslight Harbor
  • The Gazebo
  • The Landing Strip
  • The Old Post Office
  • The Racquet Club
  • St. Michael’s Disco Alley
