1909 — Stephen K. Stone, one of the leading residents of Fayetteville for nearly 70 years died on this day. Stone moved to Fayetteville in 1830 and married Melvina Brodie in 1843. "He accumulated a fortune in the mercantile business and retired more than 30 years ago. He was a systematic and methodical businessman and gave strict attention to every detail of his business," the Arkansas Sentinel wrote in Stone's obituary.
