W.H. Morton, cashier of the Washington County Bank, interested J.E. Mock, E.C. Pritchard, and F.O. Gulley in developing the block of land bounded by Lafayette, Forest, Mock and Maple streets as a restricted residential section, according to Campbell’s One Hundred Years of Fayetteville. The prestigious homes built across the crest of Mount Nord are still among the most recognizable scenes in Fayetteville. The Mock family lived in this brick house, which still stands atop the hill.
