1955 — Louis Armstrong, the famed jazz trumpeter, first played at the University of Arkansas Fieldhouse on this day. Two years later at the height of the Little Rock Central High crisis, the UA student senate voted to cancel a contract with Armstrong because he told the press his only regret about playing at Arkansas a third time was that Governor Orval Faubus could attend the concert and he didn’t deserve to hear it.
