Greek Theatre

Uachiotheatre

Donated to the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville by the national Chi Omega sorority in honor of the founding UA chapter, the Chi Omega Greek Theatre is based on the Theatre of Dionysus at Athens, Greece. Built in 1930, it’s one of the few Greek amphitheaters in the United States. Five large stones on the front of the theater give the names of the founders of Chi Omega: Simonds, Boles, Richardson, Holcombe and Vincenheller. And around the frieze are inscribed the words knowledge, integrity, courage, culture and intelligence. The theater has been the scene of commencements, pep rallies, concerts and dramas. Postally unused, this “colourpicture” card was printed in Cambridge, Massachusetts, for the Ozark Grocer Company circa 1950.
