Harold Nathaniel Hayes

Funeral for Harold Nathaniel Hayes, 19, who drowned Tuesday [May 8, 1962], will be held Friday at 2:30 at St. James Methodist Church. Burial will be in Oak Cemetery under direction of Nelson’s Funeral Home.

Hayes was born July 11, 1942, at Fayetteville and survivors are his father, Ralph Hayes; his mother, Lola Jean Carr of Fayetteville; two sisters, Dorothy Dean Carr of Fayetteville and Charlotte Hayes of the home and the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Madren
Carr of Fayetteville.

Teammates Attend Funeral Service for Harold Hayes

Funeral service for Harold Nathaniel Hayes, 19, former Fayetteville High School athletic star who drowned Tuesday in a Missouri swimming accident, was conducted yesterday afternoon at St. James Methodist Church. Burial under direction of Nelson’s Funeral Home was in Oak Cemetery.

The funeral home estimated that 70 persons were forced to remain outside the church after it was filled to capacity. Among those attending the service was Shelby Breedlove of Fort Smith, Hayes’ high school coach; his Fayetteville High School teammates, a dean from Joplin, Mo., Junior College, where Hayes was a standout basketball player, and students and members of the junior college basketball and golf teams.
