Funeral Service Held for Florene Smith

Funeral services for Florene Smith, 38, Negro, who died last Sunday at 3 a.m. at a Houston, Texas, hospital following a short illness, were conducted yesterday [Friday, Dec. 21, 1951] afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at St. James Methodist Church by the Rev. A.L. Buchanan, assisted by the Rey. J.W. Webb.

Born in Fayetteville May 15, 1913, she was the daughter of Emmett and Naomi Smith. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Springfield, Mo., and a member of Malleau Methodist
Church in Houston.

Survivors are her mother, Naomi Parks of Fayetteville; three brothers, Sterling Smith of Fayetteville, Leon and Edgar, both of Beverly Hills, Calif.; two sisters, Sarah Willie York of Houston, and Jewel Carr of Fayetteville.

Pallbearers were Major Blackburn, Russell Hoover, Henry Dowell, Andrew Smith, Ralph Hayes, and Dave Jenkins.

Burial under the direction of Nelson’s Funeral Home.
