Janet Ellen Berrey

Janet Ellen Berrey passed away January 31, 2026 in Fayetteville. Janet was the eldest of four children born to Ellen and Vincent J. Long in Saint Louis, Mo., January 1, 1932.  She attended Monte Casino High School and graduated in 1948. She attended Maryville College, St. Louis. She later obtained her bachelor’s degree from St. Louis University. She met her husband Joseph Lane Berrey at a basketball game and they later married at Holy Family Cathedral, Tulsa, Okla., in 1951.

Janet is preceded in death by her parents; husband Joseph Lane Berrey; sons, Joseph Lane Berrey Jr. and John Lane Berrey; brother-in-law Don Brockwell; sons-in-law, Randy Bauer and Ben Gover; nephews, Ronnie Lemon and Thomas Brockwell; niece Katie Hackett; and grandson Michael Gover.

Janet and Joe traveled many places with friends and family. They later made their home on an original Osage allotment in  Sperry, OK. They enjoyed being parents and most importantly they loved being grandparents. They had a Christmas tree, cattle and pecan businesses. They were very involved in their community and served on the board of the Kihekah Steh Powwow Club.  The marriage continued until Joe’s death.

Janet moved to Butterfield Village in Fayetteville, AR. There she continued be a strong matriarch of the family. She had many friends and built a strong community there.

She enjoyed baseball, football and crosswords. She was an avid reader, a gifted knitter, a fabulous cook, with a sharp and witty sense of humor. She never met a stranger and will be missed

Janet is survived by her beloved siblings, Dr. John and Mary Ann Hackett, La Grange, Ill., Mrs. Virginia Brockwell, Las Cruces, N.M., and Vincent J. Jr. and Gayle Long, Tulsa, Okla.; her devoted children, Mrs. Ellen Bauer, St. Charles, Mo., Janet and Dr Ali Sadeghi, Hatfield, Pa., Mrs. Mary Jo Gover, Hogeye, Ark., Mrs. Katherine Pratt, Miami, Okla., Carol and Charlie Boger, Fayetteville, and Mrs. Sarah Berrey, Joplin, Mo.; grandchildren, Ivy, Joe, Ninoosh, Gila, Nicole, Jack, Lane, Angela, Eddie, Joy, Emily, Cade, Berrey, Liam, and Henry; great-grandchildren, Janet, Marley, Reed, Randy, Ava, Max, Rhys, Phiphers, Audrey, Alexa, Izaiah, Jade, Emma, and Emmett; and great-great-grandchildren Blake and Layla.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2026, at Calvary Cemetery in Tulsa.

There is no scheduled visitation.
