The Ramble

In June 2021, the city chose the name of “The Ramble” for a sinuous park that would extend from Dickson Street south along the Razorback Greenway to Prairie Street.

The city and university developed a proposal for an “arts corridor” in early 2010s that would link the Walton Arts Center and TheatreSquared with the university’s then-nascent Windgate Art District.

Voters approved a bond issue in 2019 that included more than $31 million earmarked for development of the wooded corridor.

Development of the park occurred in two phases. The first phase — the Lower Ramble from Center Street — included creating a walkway west from the paved Frisco Trail across Tanglewood Creek to Gregg Street and a continuation of that walkway east from the Frisco Trail to West Avenue. A gravel path was also added along the Creek, and a variety of tree species were planted throughout the park.

The second phase — the Upper Ramble — involved taking up the large parking lot at Dickson and West and converting the space into a city park. The majority of the park was finished in 2025.
