Nolan Richardson Drive

The city of Fayetteville in collaboration with the University of Arkansas Black Alumni Society officially renamed two city streets on April 16, 2021.

Leroy Pond Drive on the University of Arkansas campus was renamed Nolan Richardson Drive in honor of the Razorbacks’ former men’s basketball coach, Nolan Richardson. Although Richardson couldn’t attend the renaming ceremonies, several of Richardson’s players including Oliver Miller, Todd Day, Corey Beck and Kareem Reid attended the ceremony.

The current Razorback men’s basketball coach, Eric Musselman, and former coaches John McDonnell and Norm DeBriyn also attended.

Government Avenue was renamed Lt. Col. Leroy Pond Avenue in honor of the soldier, Leroy Pond, who died in action during World War II.

The idea to honor the hall of fame basketball coach was brought forth by Fayetteville Councilman D’Andre Jones.
