Elnora Jackson, a trailblazer, devoted mother, and cherished friend, passed away surrounded by her loved ones at the age of 86. Born on December 14, 1938, in Cane Hill, Arkansas, to Preston Lackey and Isabel Barker. Elnora’s life was a testament to resilience, faith, and love.

Elnora was among the first African American students to integrate Fayetteville High School in fall of 1954, paving the way for generations to follow. Her courage during such a pivotal time in history reflected the strength and determination that defined her life.
In her early years, Elnora pursued her passion as a hairstylist, bringing beauty and confidence to those around her. Later, she made history again as one of the first African American switch-board operators at Southwestern Bell, now AT&T, in Fayetteville, AR where she worked tirelessly for 26 years before retiring.
Elnora’s heart was anchored in faith. A devoted member of St. James Baptist Church, she found joy in singing in the choir and lifting her voice in praise. Her home was a sanctuary of love, where she cultivated her passions for gardening, sewing, reading, cooking, and creating precious memories with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Preston Lackey and Isabel Barker, and her beloved brothers, Preston Lackey Jr. and Billy Ray Lackey. Husband, Amos Jackson and son Michael Jackson.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and faith through her children: David and his wife (Tracy) Jackson of Fayetteville, daughter Anita Jackson of Fayetteville, one brother Thomas Wayne and his wife (Marvia) Lackey of Fayetteville, two sisters Roberta Morgan of Fayetteville and and Joanne and husband (Farrell) Goodley of Fayetteville, and seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
Elnora Jackson was a pillar of the community, a source of unwavering love for her family, and an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, January 31, 2025, at Beard’s Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Fayetteville National Cemetery.
