The route of the triathlon known as the Moonshiner’s Madness Marathon, which involved running, canoeing and bicycling.

The Moonshiner Madness Marathon was a fall triathlon race held in Fayetteville during the latter 1980s and early 1990s that was approximately the length of a marathon. It was run until a heavy storm on the morning of the race one year forced its cancellation that day.

The race began and ended at the Fayetteville Square. Participants started by running east from the square, into Spout Spring valley, south on Willow and then east out Huntsville Road to Crossover Road and then Wyman Road east again.

Runners switched to canoes at the old Wyman Bridge for the second leg of the race, going down the White River to Fox Run Landing, where canoers then ran uphill for 1 mile to the second exchange point.

They then switched to bicycles, riding out to Highway 45 and turning east, pedaling out to its intersection with Wyman Road and then turning around and coming back into town via Mission, Lafayette, Washington, Dickson and Block streets to return to the square.
