September 7 – School enrollment at 917 and Fayetteville’s Miss America

1908 — The student population on the first day of classes in the Fayetteville School District reached 917 on this day, a new record and 92 more students than the year before. The high school classes were held in temporary quarters but expected to move into the new high school building the next week.
1963 — Donna Axum, a Delta Delta Delta sorority member at the University of Arkansas, was crowned Miss America, the first from Arkansas, on this day.
