1974 — The Old Post Office on the Fayetteville square was added to the National Register of Historic Places on this day.
1985 — Astronaut Richard Covey, a Fayetteville native, carried a small Arkansas flag into space on this day to commemorate the city of his birth. He was the pilot for the NASA shuttle Discovery, which deployed three communication satellites.
1999 — Jerry Hilliard, an archaeologist for the Arkansas Archeological Survey, began unearthing part of Fayetteville's past on this day. Excavation for construction of the Fayetteville Town Center on the south side of the square uncovered remains of two rock-lined wells, a public outhouse and the foundation of what once was a general store.
2002 — The new Washington Regional Medical Center at North Hills Medical Park opened on this day.
