Old Main

Although the south tower of Old Main did not hold clockworks until 2005, occasional photos and post cards showed clock hands or numbers on the faces of the south tower, including this card. At one time, numbers were painted on the face in anticipation of a clock. Whether the numbers and hands were added to this photo in the darkroom or they were added to the face itself at the time the photo was taken is hard to determine. The photographer, Burch Grabill, was clever enough to have added the numbers, and most German printers were also skilled enough to do the same. The card was printed for S. Bozeman and postmarked October 6, 1907, aboard the Monett and Paris line of the St. Louis and San Francisco Railway. Sent by D.R. Davis of Fayetteville, the card was addressed to Miss Mattie Suman of Cushing, Oklahoma, but contained no message.
