Located at the southwest corner of the square, the Washington Hotel had perhaps the most fashionable lobby during its heyday. It was built about 1905 on the site of the earlier Tremont House and City Hotel. This card was printed by Curt Teich of Chicago, Illinois, and addressed to Mr. Harry Habacker of Millersville, Lane County, Pennsylvania. A description of the Washington Hotel says that the hotel is “located in the heart of the Ozarks where nights are comfortable. The Washington has Simmons Beds and Beauty Rest Mattresses. It is ‘first in service, first in hospitality and first in the hearts of its patrons.’” Postmarked March 9, 1935, its unpunctuated message reads: “This the class Hotel we stop at all over the South is only way to travel is a No 1 My Party will Pay me over $1400, 6 of them will driv 7300 mules June 3 to California”
