1871 — "Some wretch 'whom it would be base flattery to call a coward,' fired several shots from a navy revolver" at Judge Gilbreath on this day. One of the bullets hit Gilbreath's bedstead. Deputy Sheriff William J. Gilliland had earlier in the day been ordered to jail by Gilbreath for contempt of court because Gilliland couldn't produce the county tax books.
