Taken from atop Old Main on the University of Arkansas campus, this photo by Grabill Studio shows the front lawn of the campus and Fayetteville as it appeared prior to 1905. The tower just right of center is the cupola atop the early Washington County Courthouse that stood at the center of the square. Crossing the foreground is Arkansas Avenue, and angling from the lower right is a sidewalk that intersects Arkansas Avenue at Dickson Street. The card was postmarked on the Monett-Paris train line on September 17, 1906, and at Chattanooga, Tennessee, on September 19, 1906. It was addressed to Miss Beulah Jordan of Chattanooga, and it reads: “Dear Beulah. I wish I could have seen you before I left. I am having a fine time. Will start to school next Wed. Tell Mr. Bowers howdy. Have you been with Bruce any more. Be sure and write to me. As good a time as I am having still I wish I was back. Lovingly Mabel” The card was printed in Germany for Dunning & Chapman 5 & 10 Cent Store.
