1971 —
"The Flying Bandit," Clarence Elmer Dunham, hung himself in the
Fayetteville City Jail on this day. Dunham was being held on charges of
stealing several airplanes, including one that he landed at Fairfield,
Illinois, where he robbed the airport manager. He took off again but
was caught at Fayetteville.
