Considered one of the prettiest avenues in the Midwest, College Avenue was like an arbor tunnel at the beginning of the twentieth century, the boughs of elm, maple and oak trees shading the primarily residential street. This view, looking north on College Avenue shows that the street was not yet paved, although sidewalks had been installed. The wheel tracks of carriages and wagons had not given way to automobile tires. This card was postmarked at Fayetteville on April 25, 1909, and addressed to Mrs. W.S. Kilpatrick of Cimarron, New Mexico. The note reads: “My Dear, Have you gone off and died or why don’t you ans. my letter and where is Mrs. Pease. I haven’t heard from either for a month or so. Don’t you love me no more. Daisy.” The card was printed in Germany for F. Bozeman of Fayetteville, importer and publisher.
