The old U.S. Highway 71 north of Fayetteville used to run farther west of its present course, eventually along the Elk River. The overhanging bluffs made the drive a scenic one for tourists but a tactically difficult one for tractor-trailer drivers. When Bella Vista was developed as a resort community, the route of the highway was moved to its present location, although overhanging bluffs weren’t completely eliminated. This card was printed by Curteich of Chicago, Illinois, for Mr. and Mrs. E.A. Bellis of the Mount Gayler tourist stop. It was addressed to Gayle Anne Ware of Wichita, Kansas, but never posted.
