Arkansas House

The ethereal coloring of this post card gave the Arkansas House a heavenly feel exceeded only by its mountaintop location at the top of the western end of Mount Nord, overlooking the city and the University of Arkansas campus. As the writer’s note suggests, this house was originally built for the St. Louis World’s Fair as part of the Arkansas exhibit at the fair. Addressed to Miss Pansy Osbourn of Neosho, Missouri, and postmarked July 9, 1906, the note reads: “Hello Pansy – Do you remember this at the Fair. It is the same building. I dont know when I will be home.” Indeed, the building was disassembled and rebuilt at Fayetteville. It is no longer standing although one of the entries and its fanlights was saved and used as the entry to 416 West Dickson. The card was printed in Germany for Dunning and Chapman.
