Washington Avenue in 1910 was still a dirt and gravel road, although the sidewalks and curbs had been installed. Barely visible on the far right is a fire hydrant, and most of the houses in this neighborhood had indoor plumbing by this time. Many of the houses still had stone or concrete posts out front to which horses could be tethered. One of these still stands on nearby Sutton Street. This card was not postmarked, but its unsigned note was dated December 5, 1911. It reads: “My dear Miss Holland: Your cards rec’d several days ago, they are all lovely. I thank you ever so much for them. Am so sorry I sent you two cards a like I have tried to keep a list of the cards I send you and thus avoid sending duplicates”
