Transportation routes into Fayetteville proved difficult to build, so much so that rail lines didn’t reach Fayetteville until 1882. This section along the White River shows the amount of bedwork required along portions of the lines running into the Boston Mountains. This card was published by S.A. Diehl of Eureka Springs, Ark., and printed by Curteich of Chicago, Illinois. Postmarked Oct. 20, 1928, at Fayetteville, this card was sent to Mr. Earl Smith of Randolph, Ill., care of Forrest Dryer. It reads: "We are down here in Arkansas so far down we can’t see the top. Just run 700 mile but ready to start home They had their first frost last nite but the sun is sure hot now. Will try to get home Monday, but not sure"
