Philip Hudson Babb

Obituary.

P.H. Babb was born in Green county, Tenn., June 14th, 1844, and died at Fayetteville, Ark. April 16, 1889. He was married in January 1 08 and leaves a wife [Mary Jane Correll Babb] and two children to mourn their loss.

Mr. Babb was a mechanic and had attained great proficiency in his trade. Be was Instructor in Wood Work at the A.I.U. He was very highly esteemed by the faculty of the University. The work of the University’ was suspended and the faculty attendedd the funeral services in a body. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity and was buried with Masonic honors.

He was a Christian, was converted under the ministry of Rev. Mr. Penn, of the Baptist Church, in October, 1888, and soon after was baptized by the writer and received into the communion of the M.E. Church South. His funeral services were conducted by the writer, assisted by Rev. B.G. Manard of the Baptist church. Brother Babb really believed he wa born of the Spirit and God’s spirit bore witness to the fact. His life wass in harmony with his profession so we unhesitatingly claim for him the promise contained in the text used at his funeral “Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord from henceforth; yea saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors and their works do follow them.”
